DUKE

Our most successful 5-batten sail is back! Combining LIGHT DONE RIGHT construction and all the other concepts developed over the past decade, the reincarnation of the DUKE is poised to become the new benchmark for maneuverability oriented sails across a wide wind range.

Our most successful 5-batten sail returned with a vengeance in SS23, and for SS25 we've given it a fresh new look.

The DUKE combines our construction LIGHT DONE RIGHT and all the other construction concepts developed over the last decade to set a new standard in maneuverability sails geared toward a wide wind range.

When it came to developing the DUKE , was a 1.5 year project, with You , the end user, are always at the heart of development. As a starting point, we involved real consumers who regularly use these types of sails and our surf centers to define a wish list for the reincarnation of the DUKE , and here's the result and how we did it:

Maximum wind range, especially in changeable and/or super gusty conditions.

This is the most important factor and the main advantage of opting for a maneuverability-oriented 5-batten sail. As a simple rule, more battens give you more control and a greater wind range. This typically has a negative effect on low-end power, as more battens make it harder for the wind to inflate the sail, making it less efficient at pumping. That's why we've incorporated the concept. BATTEN FREE CENTER of the SUPER_HERO . Instead of the usual even distribution of sabers, the DUKE It has a larger space between the lower batten and the batten above the boom. This facilitates inflation in the boom area and increases stability on top (due to the higher batten density in this area). The second disadvantage is that each batten increases the sail's weight, which is why there has been a trend toward fewer battens on wave sails in recent years.

Super light feel in your hands but without losing durability after 1-2 seasons.

The reduction in weight of 4-batten sails was the main reason for the demise of 5-batten sails in the last decade. Fortunately, we have made significant improvements in construction over the last 10 years. The result was the construction LIGHT DONE RIGHT , introduced in 2022. By replacing the usual multi-layer reinforcements with a single layer of high-quality fabric and introducing the ONE PIECE SLEEVE , we were able to reduce the overall weight by 300g. Most importantly, we are the only brand that has achieved these weight savings without reducing the thickness of the film and XPly panels. Only in this way can we continue to guarantee our unmatched 5-year warranty . Reducing the film thickness can make the sail feel spongy, as energy is dissipated with the increased elongation, leading to a heavier feeling in your hands. Unlike others, our sails are not only lighter on the scale, but especially in your hands when you're on the water. Because that's where it really matters!

Early planing power even without overpumping.

To achieve maximum glide power, the DUKE It features a high draft distribution combined with a deep profile that helps lift the board when gliding.

Super neutral in maneuvers.

To make tricks and turns as easy as possible, the sail should be completely neutral during maneuvers. Therefore, the DUKE It comes with a more forward trim position. This forward trim cuts power and becomes completely neutral as soon as you release or change the sail, resulting in a much higher success rate.

Good lift and control for jumps.

The higher trim position also increases your airtime by generating lift, while the forward trim position helps you maintain control.

Maximum range of use.

One of the greatest attributes of the DUKE is its versatility. It's pure excitement in bump & jump conditions on your freewave board or as a smaller sail for full-throttle riding on your freeride board. The forward and high trim position makes it very capable for classic and even new-school freestyle tricks. And finally, it's a great sail for medium wave conditions and/or jumps, especially in gusty or challenging wind conditions. Thus, the new DUKE It is a true high-performance contender that challenges any sail in maneuverability.

Easy and quick to rig.

With all the features, markers and tips we have developed over the last 40 years, it is safe to say that there is no other sail that is faster or more precise to rig than a DUOTONE . This means that even if you're not a pro who rigs and adjusts your sail every day, you'll still get the right trim. Only with proper trimming can you unlock 100% of your sail's performance.

Similar feel to your larger Freeride/Performance sails.

It's important that all the sails in your rig have a similar feel and behavior. This is true even for professionals, as it often takes them a full day to get used to and adjust their style to a sail that feels very different. The main reason sails feel different is the trim position. Fortunately, DUKE It has a trim position very similar to the vast majority of modern freeride sails.

As you can see, we've put all our knowledge and experience into creating the most sophisticated high-performance Jump N' Ride wing to date.

Finally, the new DUKE comes in 2 build options:

  • DUKE standard: It features a 50% monofilm construction with all high load areas (foot, sheet, masthead, luff) reinforced with XPly.
  • DUKE HD: Made entirely from XPly to give you that extra peace of mind.

Key Features:

  • Advanced draft: Front draft cuts power and becomes completely neutral during maneuvers, increasing your success rate.
  • BATTEN FREE CENTER: Increased space between the lower batten and the batten above the boom, improving inflation (planing power) in the boom area and stability above.
  • LIGHT DONE RIGHT Construction: Weight reduction from 200 to 300 g without reducing the thickness of the main panel, maintaining the recognized durability and longevity.
  • VTS TAIL Clew Specifications: Each sail includes visual cues for correct clew extension (requires VTS TAIL boom).
  • iROCKET 2.0: Factory calibrated batten tensions using a torque wrench.
  • Available in HD: Also available in a non-monofilm HD construction.
