Description
Flat, loose, and even faster, the new S178 stabilizer is a high-speed upgrade for the Sonar foil system, ideal for experienced riders. We recommend pairing the S178 with HA950-sized front wings or smaller. The S178 has a taller aspect ratio than the S208, meaning less drag, and its flatter profile (front view) allows for greater maneuverability.

As we expanded our range of front wings, we needed to match the lift force of the front wing with that of the stabilizer. While the front wing creates vertical lift, the stabilizer generates a downward force that prevents the nose of the front wing from dipping. A larger stabilizer means more pressure on the front foot, while a smaller stabilizer reduces this pressure.

The North stabilizers are mounted high on the fuselage, helping to avoid turbulence caused by the front wing's flow, providing a smoother ride experience. This higher position also provides early departure warning: the stabilizer pierces the water surface first, giving the rider more time to react before the front wing rises too high.

Like the front wings, all Sonar stabilizers are constructed from prepreg carbon, ensuring optimal stiffness and straightforward performance. The thin profile section reduces drag, while the material's properties help maintain structural integrity and rigidity.

Stabilizers have a huge impact on performance. As you progress to smaller wing sizes, we recommend upgrading to a smaller stabilizer for greater maneuverability. Experienced riders will really notice the difference, and a new stabilizer can have a huge impact on your riding style.
